Detailed 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari

Day 1: Scenic Road Transfer from Entebbe/Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park

Your 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari begins with a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport or from your accommodation in Kampala. From here, you will embark on a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park, located in the western part of Uganda. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours, passing through lush countryside, rolling hills, and small towns, offering a glimpse into Uganda’s rural life. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to stop for lunch in Fort Portal, a picturesque town known for its cool climate and views of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Upon arrival in Kibale Forest National Park, you will check into your lodge located on the fringes of the forest. The park is home to 13 different primate species, including chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and more. The surrounding landscapes of tea plantations and tropical rainforest create a serene and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of travel. Take the evening to relax and prepare for the exciting chimpanzee tracking adventure awaiting you the next day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Evening Game Drive

After an early breakfast, Day 2 starts with one of the highlights of your 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari: chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. You’ll begin with a briefing at the park headquarters by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, who will provide insights into the behavior of chimpanzees and the tracking process. Kibale Forest is renowned for its largest population of chimpanzees in Uganda, and your chances of encountering these incredible primates are exceptionally high.

The trek through the dense forest takes about 2 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the chimpanzee families. Your 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari guide will lead you through the towering trees and thick underbrush, pointing out other wildlife and bird species along the way. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you’ll spend up to an hour observing their fascinating behaviors—whether it’s grooming each other, playing in the treetops, or foraging on the forest floor. This intimate encounter with one of our closest relatives is a truly emotional and unforgettable experience.

After your chimpanzee trek, you’ll enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon road transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which takes about 3 hours. As you approach the park, you’ll be treated to views of Lake George, Lake Edward, and the Rwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival, you’ll head out for a brief evening game drive to catch your first glimpse of the wildlife that inhabits the park, including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, and various antelope species. After the game drive, you’ll retire to your lodge for the night.

Day 3: Full-Day Adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park – Morning Game Drive, Boat Cruise, and Evening Game Drive

Day 3 is dedicated to exploring the diverse wildlife and landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Begin your day with an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, a prime location for spotting predators such as lions and leopards on the hunt. The open savannah plains are also home to large herds of Ugandan kob, buffaloes, elephants, and a variety of bird species.

Following your morning game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast before heading to the Kazinga Channel for an afternoon boat cruise. This 32-kilometer-long natural channel connects Lake George to Lake Edward and is one of the best places in Uganda to observe wildlife up close. During the boat ride, you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and an array of water birds, including pelicans, cormorants, and the magnificent African fish eagle. Elephants and buffaloes often come to the water’s edge to drink, providing excellent photo opportunities.

After the boat cruise, you’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch before setting out for an evening game drive. This time, you’ll explore different areas of the park, such as the Mweya Peninsula or the Ishasha Sector, which is famous for its tree-climbing lions. The setting sun often brings more wildlife activity, giving you another chance to spot elusive species before heading back to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 4: Scenic Road Transfer Back to Entebbe – End of Safari

Your final day of the 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari is reserved for a scenic road transfer back to Entebbe or Kampala. After breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to the wilderness of Queen Elizabeth National Park and embark on the return journey. As you drive through the stunning landscapes of Western Uganda, you’ll pass by tea plantations, crater lakes, and volcanic formations, offering perfect backdrops for reflection on your 4-Day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari experience.

A stopover in Mbarara for lunch will allow you to relax and stretch your legs before continuing the journey. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Entebbe, where you will either be dropped off at your hotel or head to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home. This marks the end of your incredible 4-day Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari, leaving you with cherished memories of Uganda’s unique wildlife and scenic beauty.
